NSW Fair Trading is conducting a survey as part of the statutory review of the Associations Incorporation Act 2009 (the Act). The purpose of the survey is to find out whether the Act is working as intended and fulfils the needs of the sector. It should take you about 15 minutes to complete the survey and your responses will help with the review of the Act. The survey will close on 31 August 2015.
In 2013, we conducted public consultation focusing on governance of associations, exploring possible solutions and aiming at strengthening governance while not placing undue burdens on associations. The outcomes of the governance consultation will feed into the full review of the Act.
There are more than 36,000 associations registered in NSW, including sporting and industry groups, social clubs and other community groups. Approximately 98% of associations fall into a Tier 2 category of associations, whose gross receipts do not exceed $250,000 or current assets do not exceed $500,000 for the last financial year. An association incorporated in NSW has the status of a legal entity and must comply with the Act.
